Are The Tories Really Helping The Poorly Paid Workers By Taking Them Out Of Tax?

  1. TAKING THE LOW PAID OUT OF TAX (& some altogether) - is very much like a Greek Myth, a tiny bit of fact mixed with a huge dollop of fantasy and a ‘dash’ here and there of distraction.
My monthly pay packet has been £60.00 higher since the Tax Threshold was raised. This ‘boost’ in income was solely due to the Tax Change and easily calculated as I did not get a pay increase this year. My wage packet certainly cried out to me; “I am better off by £60 a month”.
However, like many others on low pay I also claim HOUSING BENEFIT so this £60 boost in income was reviewed by the local council then classed as Excess Income, thereby 85% or £51 was deducted from my HB/C Tax payments. It turns out I am £9.00 a month better off due to this TAX GIVAWAY, and about £51.00 a month is taken by the council to reduce the amount of H Benefit/C Tax relief it pays out.
The £60 played the lead role as THE FANTASY; the £9 a month took the stoic role of THE TINY BIT OF FACT. What of DISTRACTION?
Valen, you did touch on this in your video when mentioned that this ‘Tax Break’ reduces revenues to the treasury which in turn goes to support all our other vital services. You take this point further by revealing some of the distraction; that the greater burden of tax will fall onto the shoulders of the Middle Earners who will soon taste the blunted steel of Tory Compassion.
The DISTRACTION is the multi-faceted player and the drama is as cunning as the proverbial Trojan Horse Coup:
The timing of the Tax Break, just before the election was set to throw a positive spot-light at the Tories by gifting the poor; “Taking Some On Low Incomes Out Of Tax Altogether.”
But, and as I have said earlier; 85% is taken away from our benefits and goes directly to reducing the overall benefits bill. So Instead of my £51 going to ALL SERVICES, the £51 goes EXCLUSIVELY to DWP.
Ironically; and there are always Ironies in Mythology, my £51 is used to support two Core Tory Ideologies; smashing state provision AND reducing spending on welfare. The irony twists too; those on Benefits now contribute a greater proportion of their earnings to DWP than those on higher incomes and are NOT in receipt of benefits.
In Mythology there is usually some philosophy thrown in, I guess that would be ‘Never Trust A Tory’. However, I suspect that with this show running for 5 more years it will play itself out like a Greek Tragedy.

    1. Thank you so much for your succinct summary of a real life example of what I was trying to say in my vlog. I love the fact that it shows that people who read/watch my blog are incredibly intelligent and switched on; to have used the Greek Myth analogy just intellectualised the whole debate. Thank you so much. I don't suppose you'd like to contribute some more thoughts to the blog as a guest blogger?
